PHOTO 49 -- Flight C-1 : March 3, 1973

The moment of liftoff...the rocket for Flight C-1 begins to climb the launch rail, sailing upward of 1000 feet (300 metres) above a snow-covered Manitoba field.
The "C" series of flights had several objectives, including refinement of the parachute recovery system, launching small payloads, proving the reliability of the B-200 and, later, C-400 motors, experimenting with various construction techniques for the rocket, including use of different materials. Also, tracking methods, including altitude and distance measurements, were developed over the course of this series of flights.
