PHOTO 23 -- Flight C-3, May 1973
PHOTO 23This photo is one of my favourites. It clearly shows the rocket at the pinnacle of the smoke trail, nearly at motor burnout. Altitude of the rocket in this photo is estimated at 130 feet (40 metres).
At the peak of the trajectory, the pilot chute ( 1 foot diameter) deployed as intended, but it failed to pull out the main parachute. Rocket descended by pilot chute only, but this was sufficient to brake the fall such that only minor damage resulted.
